Making His Band - Ep.1

Yesterday, I fell in love all over again. I used to have deep respect, a downright love for Diddy that I had to suppress at times as to not appear as a crazed fan. And after three seasons of mediocre Making The Band, my flame for him burned out. I was spent. I just couldn't continue with the one-sided relationship. Me, giving him my ultimate fan-ness and him, giving me, nothing. But last night, he came in to my living room and he gave me all of himself and our love affair has been rekindled! He took me to another level...back to where my adoration for reality tv begin. Back when Making The Band was my favorite show. When there was raw talent and people just trying to get ON.

Imagine how fast my heart was beating when I watched all 90 minutes of the 'Making His Band' premiere and LOVED it. And not just love like the end of a text message luv. I'm talking about Jimmy Choo love! There was no Diddy talking to the camera about his diet in three minute intervals. There was no bickering about being late to rehearsal. There was just straight up talent trying to make his band. How refreshing!

I'm fully committed to this relationship again and already feeling the love being reciprocated. Life is good!

Here are a few of my early favorites:

Jamereo - young, sweet, and SOULful!

Jaila - sure Diddy clowned her hair but he didn't clown her voice. Her/his lower register is crazy!

Brockett - speechless. He looks a little like a mad scientist, but I could listen to him all night long.

Making His Band. - Trailer

So I know last season I deserted Diddy and Day 26, but let's face it...they were just plain annoying. But then I caught wind of the 'Making His Band' trailer and well, I'm hooked again on the Sean Jean Franchise! This season's "Diddy Show" seems to feature more of the album and studio making process, fresh talent, and of course, more drama - all must-have characteristics of a musically-based reality show that will hold my attention. The season premier is tonight on MTV at 10PM. (Umm...is this opposite the T.O. Show? Damn.)

Check out the preivew below and as Diddy would say, 'Lock in!"

R.S.V.P.

I pride myself on being an avid RSVP’er. I like to assist those that are event planning and aid in the success of their affair. I know the difficulties of organizing around the unknowns and the number one most, important factor is…the people! Events are planned around the attendees and it is very complex trying to do that with no clear idea of the number of people that you are expecting. And while I am very fond of the R.S.V.P., I've come across many people that think the only event that that should RSVP to is the VIP list at the club. Smh.

For those that don’t know the initials “R.S.V.P.” are an acronym for the French phrase “repondez s'il vous plait", which means "please respond." This means that the hostess would like to know whether you plan to attend her party.

When RSVP is written on a personal invitation, it isn’t an optional request. It means that you must inform the hostesses whether or not you will attend. The only time this may not be true is if the R.S.V.P. requests "Regrets Only", meaning the hostess assumes you will probably be coming, and only wants to hear from you if you cannot. An R.S.V.P. request usually carries a date by which the hostess needs a response. Aside from illness, death in the family, or another emergency, you are committed to the party once you R.S.V.P. that you plan to attend. Should you decide to not to attend, it is in the best interest of all parties that contact the hostesses immediately and inform them of your regrets.
By being in your best interest I mean that if your hostess has already paid for your dinner and you decide to not to come and she still has to foot the bill all because you failed to inform her; not only will you have missed a meal but you will have royally pissed off a friend!

As much as an R.S.V.P. request may seem fussy and old-fashioned, it really serves an important function. It lets the hostess know how many people to expect at her party. If this is to be a catered party, she will certainly need to give the caterer a head count by a certain date, and that count will need to be accurate because she is obligated to pay for the given number of guests and she will be charged extra should unexpected guests decide to attend.

Responding to an R.S.V.P. does not take much time with all of the instant ways of communication a guest can R.S.V.P. (or even eRSVP!) within minutes of the invitation being received. And just think…not RSVP-ing to an event could result in you not having a name plate at the dinner table. *gasps* The horror!

Rocawear Barbie

I was a huge Barbie fan. I had about 150 of those 11.5in dolls that I used to dress up and have fashion shows with for hours and this new collection of Rocawear Barbie Dolls is taking me back to my childhood. I love how these dolls come in all hues and are wearing the cute and colorful creations from the Rocawear design team. And check out the hairdo's on these sistahs! I may just have to pick one of these up for nostalgia purposes.

Do you think that since now they've hooked up with Jay-Z's company they might make a followup Dereon Collection featuring their high end dresses? Talk about fab!

Matte nails for fall

I was all about the crazy neon nails for summer. I had hot pink, lime green, and even yellow! But now, I'm starting to simmer down and get into the swing of things for my favorite season, fall, and with that comes Matte! I am so eager to start wearing these fun OPI Matte colors (OPI is THE best!). I think my signature fall color will be Russian Navy. Maybe I'll even mix the mattes for a fun french tip!
visit http://www.opi.com/ to try on nail colors.

KK really is a cutie.

Ok, so I've been to Africa. It's hot, it's dry, and it's just hard to maintain a dimepiece look. So pleasebeleive that my hands are definitely clapping together and applauding Kim Kardashian for making a trip to the Motherland (mine at least), to do charity work (which you know I LOVE) and still pulling off her daily flyness! I am absolutely not mad at her. And I know we don't know why she's famous and we sometimes hate on her for snagging Reggie Bush, but let's give credit where credit is due - this girl is CUTE! I officially heart her. So there.

Sidebar: what part of Africa are they in where everyone's wearing winter coats? :-)

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Finds

You're not a true Northwest Fashionista if you've never worked at Nordstrom. It's where you learn the ropes to all that is good in denim and the basics to designer handbags. And once you've ever been associated with a Norstrom's Employee Number, your heart will forever beat just a little bit faster when you see that polka-dotted "Anniversary Sale" sign. So make no mistake that I was super anxious to see what goodies awaited me as I flipped through the catalog (yes! an extra 50 pages of greatness this year) and to my dismay, there wasn't anything that REALLY moved me. There's nothing that made me want to run out and buy BUT there looks to be a plethora of my staple items available for a price that makes me smile. Check out my Anniversary Sale favs...

Joe's Jeans $99.90 ($158.00 post-sale)

It's always good to have a fresh pair of nicely fitted, dark-washed jeans. No matter what the trend, these are classic and will always come in handy.

Hanae Mori Boxed Set $45.00 ($63.00 post-sale)
This has been my signature scent for years! It's lightweight and fresh and it last forever.

MAC Cosmetics 'Look in a Box' set $59.50 ($100 value)
Apparently my look should be in a box because I wear these exact products on pretty much a daily basis. So how happy was I when I see this all packaged nicely for me AND on sale? Score!

Ugg Zipper Boot $119.90 ($179.95 post-sale)
Every fall we wait patiently for an Ugg update that doesn't stray so far from the original that it looks like a cheap version of the Ugg we've come to love. Here it is! With a fun multicolored zipper and a finished collar that adds just the right amount of detail to a winter favorite!

Nordstrom Cashmere Wrap $49.90 ($78.00 post-sale)

How great is this wrap?! I remember buying a couple of these at last year's sale but they were a bit more than $49.90, so this is an especially good deal. These wraps are super soft and come in useful at any occasion. You can dress them up or down and with all the colors to choose from it might be a good idea to stock up on them.

Burberry Timepiece $196.90 ($295.00 post-sale)

I love a cute and feminine timepiece and this was my favorite of the ones offered. I've never owned a Burberry watch, but this one is so cute and with just a slight touch of plaid it doesn't scream BURBERRY, it's just a whisper.

Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale starts Friday, July 17, 2009 and prices go up on Aug 3, 2009. From personal experience, I know all of the good stuff is gone within the first couple of days, so don't wait!

sneaker wedges.

Sportswear was major this season and will probably continue into the fall. Not sure how I feel about these lovelies that passed across my desk today. I love the risk, but not sure about the mesh. Worth a try (new colors are coming out this fall) and they're on sale right now at http://www.adidas.com/ - $110.00.

Fab Sisters

I'm in the mood to celebrate sisters! I have a fabulous sister whom I adore and I can't imagine my life without her! Not to mention all of the sisters I've gained through my sorority, I am truly blessed! There's a saying that you can't choose your family, but I can't imagine having a better choice than her... Sisters are great for so many other reasons than clothes-sharing or diary-reading...your sister can be your best friend! If today isn't sisters day, let's pretend it is! Happy Sisters Day ladies!

A bunch of sisters that I heart!

Venus and Serena Williams.
This sporty sister duo takes their bond to the courts and are always their to celebrate each other's wins.

Beyonce and Solange Knowles
My favorite singing sister pair. They attend each other's concerts, they support each other's projects, and they always have each other's backs!

The Kardashian Sisters.
They work together, fight together, and play together all while looking SO stylish. They make me want to have a bunch of kids that love each other like they do.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen
One of my favorite stylish pairs. They've been working together since they were in diapers and they're still giving girls what they want!

Vanessa and Angela Simmons.
My newest business-savvy sister pair. These sisters are making a name for themselves despite being blessed with the Simmons name. The name may have gotten them started, but it isn't what's keeping them there. Sister Power!

Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmons.
My favorite new-school pair. With their fabulous mother and big cousins to look up too, you can expect that these sisters will be carrying the Simmons torch in no time.

Debbia Allen and Phylicia Rashad.

My old-school sister couple. I wanted to be just like both of them when I was a kid and guess what? I still do!

Kanye's Work Boot Swag

Since I'm on a new work boot fad, I couldn't help but post this pic of Mr. Best Dressed himself (Kanye West) rocking a pair of Timberlands (a la east coast with tongue hanging out). Everyone better run to the stores now, these work boots are going to be a hot commodity come this September.

Solange in Dr. Martens

I was just talking about Dr. Martens yesterday and today I see Solange rockin the work boot swag with a latex mini and tee ensemble. I am not exactly feeling the tee or how tight that skirt is, but I love the risk and of course, I heart these boots! She's always walking on the edge of fashion and I'm not mad at her. I think my corset boot may be worn with a denim mini, inspired by Solo.

Work Boot Swag.

Normally my work boots sit on at least 4 inches of stiletto (don't judge - I'm a corporate girl) but I'm thinking about switching it up. I got these from my coworker CS and I actually love them, so I'm looking for the right outfit to pair these with...Hopefully I can pull them off without looking like a grunge-reject. Looking for outfit suggestions!
